It was a wild scene on Park Slope's Seventh Avenue Wednesday afternoon as a school bus driver lost control of the vehicle, resulting in damage to seven parked cars and a tree being knocked into a building, police said.

There were no students on board the bus and no one was in any of the parked cars. The 48-year-old driver and a 64-year-old matron on the bus suffered minor injuries.

Police said the 3:05 p.m. accident started when the bus driver, heading south on Seventh Avenue near Union Street, crossed the double yellow line and struck a parked Mercedes, the force of which damaged three other cars.

The driver then put the bus in reverse and slammed into a Honda, police said. The subsequent chain reaction damaged two other cars.

The driver then hit a tree in front of 97 Seventh Ave., police said. The tree struck two signs on a nearby building.

No summonses were issued.

  1. Wild! Was the Bus Driver INSANE? DRUNK? It reminds me of the time when one of the techs at Saturn got into a handicapped adapted SC2...the gas and brake pedals were REVERSED (the drive had to drive with his LEFT leg). Well the tech accidentally slammed on the GAS and flew forward in the garage wall (the airbag deployed!) He then scared himself so badly that he threw the transmission in reverse and backed up....right into the car on the lift behind him. Knocked that car off the lift too! Both cars were totalled!

  2. whoa! that's a crazy story! How did Saturn handle the situation?

I don't know what happened with the driver. The article said that she simply lost control...

  3. Well, the car on the lift was a used car they had just bought, so that wasn't a big deal, but the SC2 was a BIG deal because it isn't like they could offer the customer a LOANER car!

He was waiting out in the store for his service to be done, and the GM and Service manager brought him into on of the offices and explained what happened. Needless to say, he was PISSED. His insurance and Saturn's insurance covered the loss of the car and he got a new car. I'm not sure how much he had to pay of it though. :)

    Wild, huh?

The tech was in such shock they had to take him to the hospital. He was ok though. And kept working at the store!
